Classical Ballet

From our pre-primary class where we teach the basic ballet positions and introduce basic stretches and strengthening exercises, through to the advanced grades and vocational exam syllabus, Ballet is a beautiful and demanding discipline that creates a strong foundation for all dancers. Ballet is technical and encourages good poise, posture and technique, but is also a wonderful way to explore creativity, softness, fluidity and control while building the strength needed for flawless adage, jumps, turns and leaps.

Tap

Tap dancing is a rhythmical for of dancing which originated in the USA. It is now a a dance form that can be seen in the West End and Broadway as well as in Hollywood movies. Tap is always a popular choice as it's noisy! We love to let our feet have a conversation through our beats. We start with simple steps and rhythms, and gradually introduce more technically demanding steps, complex rhythms and timings. We aim for all our tap dancers to develop  into percussive, rhythmic and expressive "hoofers"

Modern

Modern Dance is a technical class that builds a solid foundation for lyrical dance, jazz, musical theatre and contemporary. Classes start with fun exercises to promote strength and flexibility through imagination and structured exercises. As the modern dancer progresses they become versatile and expressive with a solid technique for safe dance practice. This class is very popular due to the structured nature of the class, but also encourages students to FEEL the music and the movements.

Jazz

We offer the ISTD Jazz Awards to complement our Modern Dance syllabus. The Jazz Awards encourage the dancers to not only focus on the Jazz technique, but also emphasise the art of performing. Students love working on the JA's, as the syllabus is comprised of varied amalgamations that are all fantastic to learn and perform. The JA's are also good for teenagers new to dance, that want to learn to dance like they do in West End Shows, and also for those who attend the Musical Theatre Sessions.

Contemporary

Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floor work, using gravity to pull them down to the floor and can be performed to many different styles of music.

Disco Freestyle

Disco is a fun high energy dance style which incorporates Jazz Technique such as technical Spins, Kicks, Leaps, jumps, along with Gymnastics, Body movement, Flexibility and much more. It is a fast paced dance style, but can be done at many different speeds including slow. In class we dance to chart music, and we are able to incorporate current styles, fashions and trends. The medal exam structure allows our students to have entry to competitions where they also compete in Freestyle - where they compete with freedom of expression and musical interpretation. We mix our Disco Freestyle Classes with Street Dance (DFRS)

Street and Commercial

Street Dance incorporates styles such as popping, locking, breaking and house. Commercial dance is the evolution from street dance to what we have today in music videos and popular stage shows.  Commercial Dance is continually evolving and merging with different dance genres and media platforms. This class teaches our students street fundamentals, as well as exploring different music and genres through commercial dance which keeps this class fresh, current and lots of fun! We incorporate Street Dance into our Disco Freestyle Classes (DFRS)

We offer students the chance to take their ISTD Medal Tests in Rock n Roll, and a successful examination means they qualify to compete in the Regional Rock n Roll competitions.
